Physiological Roles of 3-Mercaptopyruvate Sulfurtransferase in the Cardiovascular System

Prof. Papapetropoulos will give a presentation entitled "Physiological Roles of 3-Mercaptopyruvate Sulfurtransferase in the Cardiovascular System".

Hydrogen sulfide is an important signaling molecule in the mammalian cells. 3MST uses 3-mercaptopyruvate (3MP) as substrate to produce H2S, persulfides and polysulfides. 3MST is expressed in the heart, as well as in many blood vessels, but its function in the cardiovascular system remains enigmatic. During this presentation, the role of 3MST in vascular function, cardioprotection and angiogenesis will be discussed.
