Ferroptosis, a cell death modality caused by lipid peroxidation

Sebastian-Doll-Paris-Redox-2019

Dr. Sebastion Doll from Helmholtz Zentrum Münche, Germany will join the Paris Redox 2019 congress which will be on June 20-21, 2019 in Paris, France and will give a talk "Ferroptosis, a cell death modality caused by lipid peroxidation".

Summary of Talk: Ferroptosis is a novel form of iron-dependent cell death, dominated by the oxidation of phospholipids in cellular membranes. Its relevance has already been demonstrated in a number of pathologies like neurodegeneration and cancer. Glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) is the key regulator of ferroptosis, preventing phospholipid peroxidation events from running out-of-control. We are currently beginning to understand how numerous biological processes, including amino acid, iron, and polyunsaturated fatty acid metabolism, and the biosynthesis of glutathione, phospholipids, NADPH, and coenzyme Q10 are linked to ferroptosis sensitivity.
