Short Oral Presentation Awards

Awards 2021 Redox

During the 23rd International Conference on Paris Redox 2021, held on October 13-15, 2021 as an interactive online meeting, more than 80 communications were presented.

Among the short oral contributions, the scientific committee nominated 6 (out of 22) for the Short Oral Presentation Awards:

The Winners of the Best Short Oral Presentation Awards Are:

Paris-Redox-2021-Award Stephan TangThe Role of CRISPR/Cas9-Mediated Drp1 Knockout in Ferroptosis Stephan Tang, University of Marburg, Germany

"During next year, the focus is to further elaborate on the regulators of mitochondrial dynamics and their role in ferroptosis."

Paris-Redox-2021-Award Lie GaoOverexpression of Skeletal Muscle Nrf2 Protects Against Aging-Associated Dysfunction in Skeletal Muscle and Heart - Lie Gao, University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA

"Since observed the cardio-protection of Nrf2 shown in my presentation, we are currently working on the harvested samples to analyze the antioxidant cargo of plasma extracellular vesicles (pEVs) and evaluate the S-glutathionylation of myocardium titin by using mass spectrometry that, I believe, will provide novel insight into the mechanisms underlying the improved diastolic function of hearts in the aging mice with skeletal muscle Nrf2 overexpression. These experiments are expected to be completed at the middle of next year and the obtained data will be presented in the Paris Redox 2022."

The follow-up of this project is related with the atropisomers of this photosensitizer: “Recent studies showed that redaporfin is in fact a mixture of four atropisomers that can be isolated by reverse phase chromatography. Although the photo- and physicochemical properties of the four atropisomers are similar, their therapeutic efficacies are dramatically different. The α4 atropisomer, named as such when sulfonamide substituents are on the same side of the tetrapyrrole macrocycle plane, displayed the highest levels of photo-toxicity both in vitro and in vivo. The mechanisms behind such differences are currently under investigation.”
