Role of oxidative stress in chronic obstructive lung disease

AnhTuan Dinh-XuanProf. Anh Tuan Dinh-Xuan, from Cochin Hospital, Paris Descartes University, France will present the role of oxidative stress in chronic obstructive lung disease during Paris Redox 2018.

Oxidative stress is not only a major factor causing chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), it also persists long after the cessation of cigarette smoking, due to the continued production of reactive oxygen species from endogenous sources. This presentation will discuss

  1. how oxidative stress arises in the lung
  2. how it is neutralized
  3. what genetic factors may predispose to the development of COPD
  4. how this impacts inflammation and autoimmunity in the development of emphysema and small airways disease, the two main characteristics of COPD.
